Week 3 round up.

It has been another busy week in P1….here is a look at what we have been up to. 😊

Phonics

We have been introduced to another two new sounds this week. Why not ask if we can remember what they are…

Again we practised the sounds through different sensory activities. We also had a sound hunt in the books in our class library.

As we are building our phonics knowledge we are using this to help us blend and read words. I am seeing lots of progress with this and the children’s confidence is continually growing. Well done everyone. πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘πŸ‘

Remembrance Day

On Monday we took part in a two minute silence for Remembrance Day, we discussed why we did this and learnt about the significance of the poppy. We then made our own poppies using scrunched up crepe paper. This required focus and use of fine motor skills.

Numeracy

We are continuing to practise ordering, recognising and writing numbers and the children have been working really hard to practise this through different activities. We have also been working on addition and having a go at writing number stories/sums. Look at these suns – what little superstars!

Tennis

On Wednesday we had our first session of tennis with Lizzie from Bellfield. This was lots of fun! We were developing ball control with our hands and using a racket. We can’t wait until our next session.

Community Walk

On Thursday morning we braved the chilly weather and went for a community walk around our local area. Before we left we did a risk assessment to make sure we knew how we could stay safe when we were out. The children did a fantastic job of identifying potential risks. We really enjoyed going for a walk and seeing what is in our local area. There was lots of discussion about directions and all the things and places that are around us. We talked about who work in these places and what they do. We also had maps to try and follow and draw some of the things in our local community. Once again the children behaved in a safe a sensible way when we were out. 😊

Diwali

This week we have started learning about the festival of Diwali. We began by hearing the story of Rama and Sita. On Friday we had a go at acting out the story using puppets. Then we had a group challenge to sequence the different parts of the story. Good teamwork and communication was needed for this and we were successful with our challenge! πŸ˜€ I was very impressed at how quickly the children managed to put the story pictures back into the correct sequence. πŸ‘

During soft start we had a go at making some Rangoli patterns with numicon.

Pinnochio

On Friday afternoon we had a great end to the week with a pantomime performance of Pinnochio by M&M Productions. They children looked liked they really enjoyed the performance and were having lots of fun singing along to all the songs!

Photos

Individual and family photos were taken on Wednesday and these went home with the children yesterday. Please return the order forms and money as soon as possible if you wish to make an order.

Chocolate

A big thank you for all the chocolate donations on Friday which will go in to the chocolate tombola at the Christmas Fayre on 29th November. Our class will be getting creative and making some crafts to sell at the Fayre too…watch this space! πŸ˜‰
