Yesterday we were learning about the SSPCA and took part in some activities to help us understand the responsibilities of owning a pet and how to look after some pets confidently. We had a visit from some lovely rabbits Smudge and Fudge and learnt how to hold the rabbits properly. We then talked about their likes and dislikes and what needs to be considered when taking a rabbit to the vet.
We enjoyed doing some role play with the rabbits and vet uniforms!

In the afternoon we had a visit from a SSPCA Officer who gave us a bit more information about what her job involves and the things we need to remember about caring for a pet.

A letter went home with the children last week about our Christmas Show. Please make sure to return the slip and money ASAP if you wish to go in order to avoid disappointment. Last year the tickets sold out!
Please contact myself or the school office if you did not receive a letter and would like to buy tickets.
Thank you. ๐๐ผ๐ค๐

Following our visit into our local community, we would like to find out more about the jobs people do in the places we found.
We are looking for parents/carers who work in: Raigmore hospital, Police Scotland, Tesco, Carlton Bingo or the office blocks at Inshes roundabout. We would love for you to come in and chat to us about your job and what skills are involved.
Available dates are:

Tuesday 3rd December 9.15am until 12.15pm

It has been another busy week in P1….here is a look at what we have been up to. ๐
Phonics
We have been introduced to another two new sounds this week. Why not ask if we can remember what they are…

Again we practised the sounds through different sensory activities. We also had a sound hunt in the books in our class library.
As we are building our phonics knowledge we are using this to help us blend and read words. I am seeing lots of progress with this and the children’s confidence is continually growing. Well done everyone. ๐๐๐
Remembrance Day
On Monday we took part in a two minute silence for Remembrance Day, we discussed why we did this and learnt about the significance of the poppy. We then made our own poppies using scrunched up crepe paper. This required focus and use of fine motor skills.

Numeracy
We are continuing to practise ordering, recognising and writing numbers and the children have been working really hard to practise this through different activities. We have also been working on addition and having a go at writing number stories/sums. Look at these suns – what little superstars!

Tennis
On Wednesday we had our first session of tennis with Lizzie from Bellfield. This was lots of fun! We were developing ball control with our hands and using a racket. We can’t wait until our next session.

Community Walk
On Thursday morning we braved the chilly weather and went for a community walk around our local area. Before we left we did a risk assessment to make sure we knew how we could stay safe when we were out. The children did a fantastic job of identifying potential risks. We really enjoyed going for a walk and seeing what is in our local area. There was lots of discussion about directions and all the things and places that are around us. We talked about who work in these places and what they do. We also had maps to try and follow and draw some of the things in our local community. Once again the children behaved in a safe a sensible way when we were out. ๐

Diwali
This week we have started learning about the festival of Diwali. We began by hearing the story of Rama and Sita. On Friday we had a go at acting out the story using puppets. Then we had a group challenge to sequence the different parts of the story. Good teamwork and communication was needed for this and we were successful with our challenge! ๐ I was very impressed at how quickly the children managed to put the story pictures back into the correct sequence. ๐

During soft start we had a go at making some Rangoli patterns with numicon.

Pinnochio
On Friday afternoon we had a great end to the week with a pantomime performance of Pinnochio by M&M Productions. They children looked liked they really enjoyed the performance and were having lots of fun singing along to all the songs!

Photos
Individual and family photos were taken on Wednesday and these went home with the children yesterday. Please return the order forms and money as soon as possible if you wish to make an order.
Chocolate
A big thank you for all the chocolate donations on Friday which will go in to the chocolate tombola at the Christmas Fayre on 29th November. Our class will be getting creative and making some crafts to sell at the Fayre too…watch this space! ๐
Yay, well done Calum! Our Star of the week today for hard work and good progress in maths. Keep up the great work Calum ๐ Oh and his first house token too for his determination!
A little reminder that individual and family photos are being taken tomorrow (Wednesday 13th).
Remember to bring your best smile! ๐

We had a great start to our group reading with Bug Club this week. The children focused on one or two books over the week. We looked at predicting and re-telling as well reading out loud in a group and comprehension of the text. The children really enjoyed their first books, these can be read at home using their online log in.
(If you did not receive the information letter about this, please contact me for another one.)
New books will be allocated on a Monday. This week there will also be a selection of independent readers added to their libraries for the children to look at as and when they wish.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to get in touch.

We had the first of our show and tell talks this week. This a fantastic opportunity for the children to build confidence when talking out loud to a group. We are also focusing on questioning this term.

Well done to O and A who delivered their talks on Friday. Lots of good questions at the end two. ๐๐
Well done to Sophie! This week’s P1 Star for an increase in confidence and independence. Well done Sophie, keep up the great work.
