Phonics

This coming week we are going to spend some more time consolidating the first 6 sounds and will begin to world build to make CVC words using these sounds.

Please continue to practise the sounds at home using the flashcards to check knowledge of individual sounds as well as having a go at word building by blending the sounds. If your child finds word building difficult just focus on the individual sounds at this stage. Try also to use opportunities to identify the initial sounds of words and generate words beginning with these 6 sounds.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Week 5

A short week this week but we still packed in lots of learning.

In maths we have been ordering numbers up to 10, 20 and 30 as well as developing our subitizing skills.

During our Chromebook buddy session we had loads of fun creating animations using FlipaClip. I saw animations including of different themes ranging from the gruffalo to an exploding volcano! Super creative work everyone.

A fantastic Gruffalo animation!

As part of our topic this term we have spent the last two weeks focusing on The Gruffalo. We have been retelling the story, sequencing the main events, developing our use of descriptive language to describe the different characters and even learning the gruffalo song in Makaton.

On Friday we had a go at making Gruffalo crumble, building a logpile house and creating some of the characters using play dough.

Here we are doing the gruffalo song in Makaton, this required lots of concentration to sing and sign at the same time.

We were developing ball skills in gym on Wednesday using control and accuracy to throw and catch the ball as well as exploring different ways of ‘trapping’ the ball using different body parts.

We enjoyed listening to another round of Show and Tell on Friday and had a chance to develop our questioning skills trying to come up with new things to ask.

Weekly round up!

Wow what a quick week! I can’t believe we are now half through term one of P1.

This week we learnt the sounds p and n. I am really impressed with all the hard work for the homework task, keep up the great work everyone. Don’t forget the songs for each sound can be found on YouTube to practise at home.

We especially enjoyed writing the sounds in the air, on the carpet and on a partners back this week.

We were developing our balancing skills in gym on Wednesday. We had a go at balancing cones on different parts of our bodies. Lots of concentration was needed for this!

As part of our topic learning we have been reading The Gruffalo, we also watched the story on the smart board. We had a go at acting out the story too! We are getting really food at retelling the story and sequencing the main events.

During our Chromebook buddy session we were sharing the story with our buddies, they read it to us and showed us some videos.

The story got us thinking about our feelings. We talked about our different feelings, what makes us feel these ways and what we can to do help us when we are feeling scared or worried.

We then met the ‘Mood Monsters’ which we are now using for our emotional check in and made some worry monsters to have for when we feel worried. We also talked about how it is important to talk about our feelings, and if we speak to someone it can help to make us feel better.

We have been singing songs about feelings too, our favourite one is the ‘Angry Song’ !

On Thursday we went outside into the garden. More balancing (along tight ropes this time), hoops and ships! A great end to the day. ๐Ÿ˜Š

This morning we were learning about our teeth and how we can look after them. Why don’t you ask to see if we can remember? ๐Ÿ˜Š

We then had lots of fun making our own mouths using mini marshmallows! We will use these for our dental hygiene display. This was developing our fine motor skills as it required us using our pincer grip to pick up the marshmallows. We were also counting and using scissor skills to cut out the tongue!

I really enjoyed listening to our Show and Tell talks today. The children are becoming more and more confident at speaking in front of the class as well as improving their listening skills.

We finished off the week with some yoga and relaxation. Can’t think of a better way to end a fun, busy and hardworking week!

Don’t forget that Monday and Tuesday are in-service days so I will see you all on Wednesday. ๐Ÿ˜€

Please note that the lunch choices on Wednesday will be the Monday choices.

Have a great weekend everyone ๐Ÿ˜Š

Week 3 round up.

What a week we have had in P1!!

New sounds, finger gym, forwards and backwards counting, teamwork construction, team games in gym, class trip to the post office, chromebook buddy session, potion making, shoe and tell and a fantastic end to a great week with a superb performance at the first Community Cafe of the year! All the children have been amazing and should be very proud of themselves. Their independence is growing each day and they are really impressing me with their hard work, enthusiasm and teamwork. Keep up the fantastic work everyone ๐Ÿ˜Š

A warm up game of Disco tag!

Developing coordination, ball and communication skills.

Developing our fine motor skills through finger gym activities.

We wrote postcards to Julia Donaldson as part of our topic learning and went to Tesco post office on a Thursday to post them. We made a risk assessment to ensure we stayed safe whilst out and were very sensible on the walk to and from Tesco.

We also had time for a quick play at the park on our way back to school.

Enjoying our first chromebook buddy session, we were learning how to log on independently and practised writing our new sounds and names.

Making our own potions inspired by Room on the Broom. We did lots of predicting about what would happen when we mixed the ingredients together, asked questions and made observations. This was lots of fun!

Another great show and tell from Oliver and Aria. The children showed excellent listening skills and had some great questions to ask.

Our Community Cafe performance with our buddies was a huge success. We worked hard to learn the songs and enjoyed sharing what we have been doing with our buddies since the start of term.

I hope you all have a well earned rest this weekend and look forward to another busy week of fun, active learning next week. ๐Ÿ˜Š

First two weeks.

I can’t believe we are already in week 3 of term 1! Here is a look at some of the things we have been getting up to so far….

I am delighted to say that the children have settled in extremely well and have been very busy engaging in lots of different learning experiences.

Each morning we start the day with soft start; the children can choose from a variety of Numeracy, Literacy, Fine motor, Construction and Sensory activities.

We have already been introduced to 3 new sounds. On Mondays and Wednesdays we hear a story and learn a song, we then practise forming the sound in a variety of sensory activities. We consolidate our learning on Tuesdays and Thursdays with different tasks including looking for and highlighting the sound and trying to think of words beginning with the sound with a little help from our friend Geraldine the Giraffe!

In Numeracy we have been counting forwards and backwards as well as counting objects. We had fun doing this outside last week.

Our topic this term is Adventures with Julia Donaldson and friends. Last week we read Sharing a Shell. We talked about how we share and are kind to others and then came up with our class rules. We have been busy making a wall tree to display these (photos to come!)

This week we have been reading Room on the Broom. Yesterday we talked about different types of transport and had a go at making our own models using different construction resources. We showed excellent teamwork for this task and it helped us develop a range of skills including inventiveness, problem solving and creativity.

This book also made us think about journeys and today we looked at a world map and found some of the places we have visited. We then decided to write some postcards to Julia Donaldson which we will take to the post office to send on Thursday.

Today we had our first session of PE with Mr Gillies. We are working on improving our fitness and stamina.

We also had our first trip to the school library. The children all chose a book to take home which they should bring back to school next Tuesday to exchange for another one.

As well as all this we have have been practising for our Community Cafe performance with P1/2 and P7 on Friday! We are looking forward to seeing some of you there.
