Bug Club

Today we started back with our weekly reading routine. The children were introduced to their new books this morning which have now been allocated to their Bug Club accounts. If you have any problems accessing a device to read the books or logging in to accounts online please get in touch. On Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays we look at the books in class and on Thursdays we carry out comprehension activities. It is extremely beneficial for the children to engage with the books at home also, even if it is just for 5 minutes each day.

Happy reading everyone! πŸ˜€πŸ“šπŸ“–

First week back!

We have had a great first week of term 3 in P1. It was lovely to see all the smiley faces on Monday and hear lots of stories from the holidays.

On Monday we shared what we had been up to and did some holiday news writing. It is great to see the progress in the children’s writing and increase in confidence when sharing stories.

We have been busy learning two new sounds this week. We started with ai (our first digraph) and the children were great detectives at finding the ai words in a story.

They have also been super keen to write out ai words…

And practising writing the sound on whiteboards…

Our second new sound was j. We did lots of sensory activities, had some messy fun with jelly and made jam sandwiches! πŸ˜‹πŸ₯ͺ

In Maths this week we have learning about money. We started by talking about money and looking at the different coins. We are working on ordering the coins from 1p to Β£2.

Our Chromebook Buddy session was full of laughs as we started creating our own book. We each had to design a page with a photo, our name and a sound file. We are excited about doing more with this in the next few weeks.

We have also enjoyed lots of different soft start activities and today we started turning our role play into a shop!

A great start to the new term. Well done to all the children for their ongoing enthusiasm, hard work, determination and kindness. πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘

Last week of term 2.

This last week the children have been engaging in a variety of Christmas themed activities. We read the Christmas Story and then had a go at re-telling the story as well as ordering the events.

At the writing table we were writing letters to Santa and copying some Christmas words. I was really impressed with the fantastic independent writing.

We were also developing our fine motor skills by making patterns with small pegs and creating cotton bud snowflakes.

After learning about symmetry earlier in the week the children made some symmetrical Christmas baubles and trees.

There was lots of cutting, wrapping and sticking with plenty of teamwork taking place in Santa’s Workshop too!

And here are some of our finished Menorahs! Some of the children took them to finish at home.

Well done to all the children for a fantastic term. They have worked so hard, shown excellent examples of following our Drakies school values and performed amazingly at the Christmas Show!

Have a great Christmas everyone…lots of fun and plenty of rest! I look forward to hearing about all your adventures after the holidays! See you all next year! 😊

Party time!!

We had our Christmas Party yesterday and it was a big success! After playtime we had party games and dancing in the hall. Corners, musical bumps, pass the parcel and the dressing up/cutting chocolate game! What great fun!!

After lunch we had party food and crackers in the classroom followed by some more dancing and lots of singing! Thank you for all the food donations – it was very much enjoyed! πŸ˜‹
